Seawater Catfish, Bilimbi and Bitter Gourd Curry (Gulai ikan Sembilang, Belimbing Buluh Dan Peria Katak)

Ingredients


1 kg Seawater catfish (ikan sembilang), scored
250 ml Water
2 pieces Dried sour fruit (asam gelugur)
500 ml Coconut cream, extracted from 2 grated coconuts
500 g Bilimbi fruits (belimbing buluh)
500 g Bitter gourd, small variety (peria katak), halved and seeded
2 Tomatoes, wedged
1 tsp Salt
Finely Ground
15 Bird's eye chilies (cili padi)
1 cm knob Fresh turmeric, peeled

 

 

 
Method

Place the catfish and ground ingredients in a pot. Add water and cook for 15 minutes over low heat until boiling. Add dried sourfruit and coconut cream while stirring slowly. Increase the heat a little and simmer until gravy thickens. Add the bilimbi fruits, bitter gourd and tomatoes and season with salt.
